The Royal Wedding
PRINCE William's wedding to Kate Middleton will result in the closure of almost 200 roads in Surrey as people host street parties. A total of 190 requests for road closures have been accepted by Surrey County Council in the run up to the royal wedding on Friday 29th April. Elmbridge handed in the most requests for street parties, with 32 accepted, followed by 30 in Reigate and Banstead. The county council received the fewest from people living in Tandridge, where there will be eight closures. Some 10 in Guildford and Woking 14 When considering road closures for street parties the council looked at any potential effect on the emergency services to ensure safety is not compromised. The cabinet member for transport, said: That so many people are planning to come together to celebrate the royal wedding shows the sense of community that makes Surrey such a great place to live in. I can’t think of a better way for Surrey residents to spend the day celebrating with neighbours and friends in the street they live in.
